| Several
years ago, The American Academy of Experts in Traumatic
Stress introduced Trauma Response® Infosheets.
These single page documents, featuring practical
information for survivors and professionals, were
disseminated around the world through the utilization
of different media. The Academy printed thousands
of these elegant handouts, offered them through
our automated fax-back system, and shared them through
our award-winning website on the Internet. Due to
frequent requests for information related to traumatic
stress, the Academy¹s Executive Board has elected
to expand our collection of Infosheets to develop
an extensive library of practical information. Today,
I am calling upon our membership to help us with
this endeavor. The Academy is looking for documents
that reflect your specific area of interest and
expertise. We encourage you to draw from your existing
workthough new documents would certainly be considered.
There is no ³model² for these Infosheets
and they may be presented in a variety of ways.
For example, information can be offered as a summary,
or perhaps as a practical checklist. Most important
is that the Infosheets are truly practical documents
that convey the eclectic flavor of our multidisciplinary
membership. The following are examples that reflect
the diversity of topics that may be addressed:
- An Overview of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
- Helping Survivors of Sexual Abuse
- Managing Dental Anxiety & Fear
- Critical Information About Death Notification
- Sports Injury & Traumatic Stress
- Bereavement Counseling
- Helping Survivors of Disasters
- An Overview of Critical Incident Stress Management
- A Checklist of Indicators of Suicide Potential
- Crisis Intervention Strategies for Teachers
- The Psychological Impact of Burns
- Counseling with the Terminally Ill
- Managing Trauma in the Workplace
- A Practical Checklist for School Crisis Response
These Trauma Response® Infosheets
will be printed as colorful handouts and distributed
as a public service of the Academy. Additionally,
as in the past, they will be offered through our
automated fax-back system and shared throughout
the world through our award-winning website on the
nternetwww.traumatic-stress.org.
This is a tremendous opportunity for the Academy
to increase awareness of the effects of trauma and,
ultimately, to improve the quality of intervention
with survivorsour association¹s mission! This
is also a wonderful opportunity for you, our membership,
to share your unique perspective.
Infosheets will be limited to one page, front and
back. They will include a beautiful masthead, title,
author, author¹s organization/practice address,
author¹s telephone/e-mail contact numbers,
and a document limited to two sides of a page. The
Academy will grant permission for reproduction of
our Infosheets in their original form.
Infosheet submissions may be e-mailed to the Academy¹s
administrative offices at aaets@optonline.net. If
replying by e-mail, please paste the document within
your e-mail text writer, or forward it as an attachment
in text form. If you prefer, you can mail your submission
to our administrative offices. Please enclose a
hard copy along with the document on a floppy disk.
Trauma Response® Infosheets offer an invaluable
opportunity to bring our expertise to the world.
Today, The American Academy of Experts in Traumatic
Stress can speak proudly of a rapidly growing multidisciplinary
membership represented by individuals from over
200 professions in the health-related fields, emergency
services, criminal justice, forensics, law, business
and education. With members in every state of the
United States and over 40 foreign countries, the
Academy is the largest organization of its kind
in the world.
Having a highly diverse, eclectic group of individuals
under one umbrella offers a unique opportunity for
us to network and share our ideas. May our growing
collection of Trauma Response® Infosheets provide
truly practical information that will ultimately
help many survivors of trauma.
