Reviews
"Preparing for the unimaginable
is not a process that can be left to intuition. There
must be guidance, established not only upon expertise
but also upon collected experience. Dan McGuire brought
to our LODD project wide expertise, current awareness
of the effectiveness of LODD protocols for other agencies,
and his own very deeply held personal experience of
line of duty deaths. The combination gave us confidence
that, at the end of our exploration and speculation
of the 'what ifs' of a Line of Duty Death in the Brighton
Fire Department, the guidelines we established will
provide an effective path through the maze of emotions
and details that such a horrible event brings. With
our guidelines in place, we are now positioned to organize
all the necessary resources of support to a hurt colleague,
a bereaved family, and the emotional needs of responders
to a major critical incident."
Kenneth Williams, D. Min.
Chaplain, President
Brighton Fire Department

"I found the training to be
very user friendly and especially appropriate for folks
without mental health training backgrounds. The presenter
was very thorough, kept our interest and is very knowledgeable
about his subject matter."
Pamela Graesser M.Ed. LCMHC
Director of Counseling Services
Rivier College

"I found the entire program
helpful. The point that stood out the most to me was
being honest to me first when having to assist someone
if I too am experiencing a recent loss and how not dealing
with pass traumatic experiences can affect one later
in life. Honestly, I can not think of any one point
discussed not as important, the entire workshop was
beneficial to my toolbox."
Sharron Rowlett, M.Ed.
Director of Multicultural Affairs &
Adjunct Professor in Behavioral Sciences
Rivier College

"After 27 years as an Homicide
Investigator, I thought I had it all figured out. After
Dan's Acute Traumatic Stress program for Law Enforcement
it was clear to me that we need to address these issues
with all police officers, be able to take better care
of ourselves and be able to admit we are not invincible."
Sgt. Merklinger, Rochester Police Department, Rochester,
NY
