Dr. Rosemarie Amendolia is
a clinical psychologist who has dedicated more
than 20 years to the treatment of trauma related
addictions and attachment disorder. She has
supervised and trained many clinicians in specialized
trauma interventions, and has presented keynotes,
seminars and workshops on trauma issues and
interventions throughout New York State and
nationally.
Dr. Amendolia began her clinical work at Vet
Centers and VA hospitals, where she treated
innumerable combat veterans and family members,
and created programs for arts-based and 12-step
PTSD group treatment for combat veterans of
several wars, as well as groups for women veterans
and veteran's significant others. Her Grand
Rounds presentations for the Albany Medical
Center-VAMC Consortium of the Capital District
repeatedly earned standing ovations.
Prior to becoming a psychologist, Dr. Amendolia
had devoted 15 years to public education in
the Arts and working with special needs children.
Out of that teaching background, she has created
psychoeducational programs for hospitals, school
systems and family counseling centers on attachment
disorder, addictions and trauma, as well as
the role of specialized interventions such as
EMDR and Ericksonian Hypnosis in treatment.
A child of immigrants, Dr.Amendolia has a
particular interest and focus on diversity issues
and the use of narrative in psychotherapy, especially
with traumatized refugees and ethnic minorities.
As a member of Physicians for Human Rights and
the Capital Region International Center volunteer
community, Dr. Amendolia also assesses and treats
adults and children who escaped civil war, torture
and incarceration.
Dr. Amendolia also participates in national
and regional disaster relief and crisis intervention
with the Red Cross. She worked at the WTC 9/11
site, as well as with the OCME.
