Steve Nguyen, M.A., B.C.S.C.R. is a Psychotherapist, Behavior Specialist, Speaker/Trainer, and Educational Traumatic Stress Consultant with experiences in behavior management consulting and mental health services. He provides Classroom Management, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention®, and School Crisis Response Workshops, Training, and Consulting (www.beyondbehaviors.com).

Steve is a Premier Speaker with the National Center for Crisis Management, a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® Certified Instructor, and is Board Certified in School Crisis Response™ (B.C.S.C.R.). He has trained over 800 teachers and school staff on Crisis Intervention, School Crisis Response, and Behavior/Classroom Management.

Steve’s experiences include counseling and/or working in adolescent/adult in-patient facilities, mental health agencies, hospitals, and educational systems with clients and students with ADHD, PTSD, learning disabilities, anger/emotional distress, relationship issues, depression, suicidal ideation & behaviors, manic-depressive, schizophrenia, and other forms of mental illness.

He launched his award-winning website (www.beyondbehaviors.com) to serve as an online resource center on Mental Health, Psychotherapy, Crisis Intervention, Traumatic Stress, Classroom Management, and School Crisis Response for teachers and professionals throughout the world.

With the support of Congresswoman Cinta M. Kaipat (CNMI), he organized and conducted the most comprehensive School Crisis Response Training ever held in the Northern Mariana Islands. He also produced and edited a “School Crisis Response Handbook” and his School Crisis Response Training video is scheduled for use as a “teach-and-learn” training video for the Northern Marianas College.

Steve was invited to testify before the CNMI House of Representatives on Assisted Outpatient Treatment. He also helped research and edit H.B. 15-121, the CNMI Assisted Outpatient Treatment Act.

Because of his many contributions to serving and advocating for individuals with mental health disability and children with special needs during his three and a half years on Saipan, he was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the CNMI Mental Health Planning Council for “Public Services, Volunteer Work and Advocacy in Improving the Lives of Individuals with Mental Health Disability, and most especially for Children with Special Needs.”

Steve is described as “vision-oriented, knowledgeable, and passionate.” He is an inspiring go-getter with a dynamic and charismatic style to empower others through education, workshops and training.

 


Workshops, Presentations and Seminar Topics

School Crisis Response: What to Do and How
How schools can effectively prepare prior to, during, and in the aftermath of traumatic events and/or crises. This workshop trains school staff on the Acute Traumatic Stress Management (ATSM) model to “jump-start” an individual’s coping and problem-solving abilities and mitigate the potential long-term emotional trauma and suffering.

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and Behavior Management Workshop*
Workshop training (2 days) for teachers and school staff on verbal and physical restraint interventions to equip them with the knowledge and skills to handle anxious, hostile and/or violent crisis situations, both inside and outside the classroom. (*Due to contractual obligations, this workshop is limited to locations that fall within “Base of Employment.”)

Bullying: What To Do and How
Bullying presentation to teachers and staff on what bullying is and how teachers and the entire school can help in early prevention and intervention.

Behavior Management in the Classroom: The Teacher’s Role
Provide teachers with strategies and tools on early prevention and intervention in the area of classroom management.
