Dr. Godfrey Sears


Dr. Sears has accumulated almost 28 years experience in a wide range of areas, including Engineering, Management, Psychology, Neuropsychology, Research, Education, Teaching, and Training inter alia and has held many top positions, including Operations Director, Production Manager, Chief Consultant, Lecturer, Professor, Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Director, University President, Consultant: Psychology, Psychiatry, Neurology, and Neuropsychiatry inter alia.
Apart from other academic and professional qualifications (HNC, BSc, MSc, MBA and DBA), he holds a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Degree, Postdoctorate in Neuropsychology (NPSYP), and Postdoctoral Master of Psychopharmacology Program (MPP).
He also completed 3,638 Clinical Hours (Residency) with the highly reputable and prestigious PSCH CLINIC in New York and gained a reputation for being a highly competent and capable clinician with great clinical skills; for successfully treating patients with mild to severe cognitive impairments, including those with complicated psychiatric disorders as well as violent tendencies; for providing the most creative and effective service interventions to his patients; for developing exceptional therapeutic relationships with his patients; for providing exceptional consultation to professional and paraprofessional staff and family members; and for establishing great respect among his colleagues, patients, family members, and the community at large.
In addition, he holds highly prestigious qualifications in specialist areas and subspecialties such as psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, medical psychology, neurology, pain management, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and traumatic brain injury conferred by highly reputable medical schools and medical associations, and subspecialties membership recognized by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS).
He was granted the honor and privilege of being selected, by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), to be among ~150 neurologists to attend Capitol Hill for three consecutive years (2013, 2014, and 2015). He is a Pain Educator, Master Psychopharmacologist, Board Certified in
Pain Management (CPM), Board Certified in Illness Trauma (CIT), and QSP in Behavioral Medicine, Neurological Science and Medical Psychology, and Certification in Neuropsychology, Domestic Violence, and Traumatic Brain Injury. He holds membership of 12 highly Prestigious Professional Organizations, including National Alliance of Professional Psychology Providers, American Academy of Neurology, American Society of Pain Educators, American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, American Neuropsychiatric Association, Society of Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology, Neuroscience Education Institute, Association for Medical Education in Europe, Association for Behavioral Sciences and Medical Education, Association for Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Association for Behavioral Analysis, National Center for Crisis Management, and American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress.
Dr. Sears produces educational materials, booklets, pamphlets, brochures and conducts lectures sessions, seminars, workshops, and conferences, both nationally and internationally, to produce high quality of life, high quality of care, and services that are par excellence for persons suffering from debilitating illnesses and disabilities and health care professionals.
His inimitable style of teaching combines personal and professional experiences over the years, perspectives of both patient and clinician, and an array of rich experiences with practitioners, lay persons, patients and as a Professor.

PAIN MANAGEMENT
Across health care and society alike there are major gaps in knowledge about pain. Educating health professionals about how to better understand pain and its causes will help bridge these gaps.

PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY
Comprehensive lectures covering Crash Course, Basic Course, Advanced Course, Primary Care Course, Medical Student Curriculum, Child and Adolescent Psychoharmacology, Geriatric Psychopharmacology, Alcohol and Sunstance Abuse Psychopharmacology.

MENTAL DISORDERS AND MENTAL HEALTH
Continued awareness is necessary in the United States and throughout the world of the immense burden of disability associated with mental disorders. Mental disorders collectively account for more than 15% of the overall burden of diseases from all causes, slightly more than the burden associated with all forms of cancer. There data underscore the importance and urgency of treating and preventing mental disorders and promoting mental health.

NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS, ESPECIALLY STROKE AND OTHER CEREBROVASCULAR DISORDERS
The burden of neurological disorders keeps on growing by leaps and bounds each year bringing forth serious consequences. Neurological disorders bring forth enormous emotional and socioeconomic impact on patients, their families and health services and the burden of conditions on patients, families, and society is devastating. Stroke and other Cerebrovascular Diseases are the number 3 cause of death in the USA, the number 2 cause of death worldwide, and the number 5 cause of death in low income countries.

CHRONIC DISORDERS
Chronic Disorders impose a significant burden on individuals, families, communities, and health care system. Chronic Disorders such as asthma, chronic lung disease, coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, heart failure, diabetes, hypertensions, HIV, and chronic depression result in disabling symptoms, loss of functional ability and productivity.

PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA
The mental health effects of conflicts and other forms of extreme violence due to human aggression can be chronic and socially and economically disabling. Traumatic events take a serious emotional toll on those involved, even if the event did not cause physical damage.

MEDICAL ILLNESS TRAUMA
Patients under stress of hospitalization and severe illness have to deal with trauma due to medical illness in unique ways. Patients experience the stress of medical illness, surgical illness and other life events that require specialized biopsychosocial approaches.

NEUROTRAUMA
Neurotrauma has a severe human and economic impact. It affects individuals, families, and also their communities, as a range of support and services are needed to assist the person who sustains neurotrauma injury to live and to participate in their community.

MIND-BODY INTERACTIONS IN HEALTH AND DISEASE
There are biological mediators between psychological and social factors and health; psychological, social, and behavioral factors in chronic disease; and psychological and social aspects of human development that influence disease and illness.

PATIENT BEHAVIOR
Health risk behaviors, behavior change and impact of psychosocial stressors and psychiatric disorders on manifestations of other illnesses and on health behavior.

PHYSICIAN ROLE AND BEHAVIOR
Personal values, attitudes, and biases as they influence patient care, social accountability, responsibility, and using linkage with community resources to enhance patient care.

PHYSICIAN-PATIENT INTERACTIONS
Basic communication skills, complex communication skills, and context of patient's social and economic situation, capacity for self care, and ability to participate in shared decisionmaking.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ISSUES IN HEALTH CARE
Impact of social inequalities in health care and the social factors that are determinants of health outcomes. Cultural competencies.

PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS AND HEART DISEASE AND OTHER RISK FACTORS TO PREVENT AND MANAGE CARDIOVASCULAR
The psychological input of heart disease and consequences of psychological manifestation for prognosis carries emphasis on depression, anxiety, social isolation, health status, and type D personality. A patient's psychological profile not only plays a major role in the adaptation to the disease, but also impacts on mortality, morbidity, and quality of life.

NEUROPSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS
Neuropsychiatry emphasizes the psychological features associated with neurological conditions since well-recognized conditions have a large psychological component. Neuropsychiatry brings forth tremendous benefits: comprehensive neurological and psychological care or patients; reduced morbidity; fewer unnecessary admissions and shorter stays; decreases psychological distress; better quality of life for patients and carers; and improved patient, carer and staff satisfaction.
