Dr. Lorie DeCarvalho is Founder/
Director of Behavioral Health Services for Adventist
Health over three hospitals and 18 rural clinics.
She is an associate clinical professor of psychiatry
at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Prior
to this, she served as a Research Health Scientist/Education
Specialist at the National Center for PTSD.
Dr. DeCarvalho received her Ph.D. in Clinical
Psychology from Loma Linda University, residency
at a flagship VA, and post-doctoral fellowship
at the National Center for PTSD. She is a board-certified
expert in traumatic stress and pain specialist,
practicing in these areas for over 15 years.
Dr. DeCarvalho has served as a professional
consultant and trainer for universities, doctoral
training programs, and major organizations such
as the U.S. Department of Defense. She has practiced
in major medical centers and pain clinics for
the past 21 years, holding memberships in several
international, national, state, and local professional
organizations in psychology, pain management,
and trauma. She has published and presented
on both international and national levels.
Dr DeCarvalho devised an original predictor
model for assessing chronic pain and PTSD. Her
research/ clinical interests are in child trauma,
motor vehicle accidents, medical trauma, physical
and sexual trauma/ rape, and war-related trauma.
She serves as an expert resource on a HRSA grant
for the treatment of individuals affected by
domestic violence, substance abuse, and depression.
Dr DeCarvalho has worked extensively with soldiers
and veterans of all war theaters, including
OIF-OEF. She co-developed and co-authored treatment
manuals utilized by significant military bases
across the country, published in 2008 by John
Wiley & Sons, entitled Strategies for
Managing Stress After War: Veteran’s workbook
and guide to wellness and Clinician’s
Guide to Treating Stress After War: Education
and coping interventions for veterans.
She is currently writing additional books to
assist military returnees with war-related PTSD.
